Polyurethane debonding is the process of removing worn,
damaged, or deteriorated polyurethane from a metal or rigid substrate so the
underlying component can be reclaimed and reused.
That's the opportunity debonding captures.
Technicians remove the bonded polyurethane and adhesive layers
using carefully controlled methods, mechanical stripping, grinding, thermal
processing, chemical treatment, or machining, without damaging the substrate
beneath. After debonding, a denuding process removes any remaining residue,
oxidation, or contamination to prepare the surface for inspection and
rebonding.
The financial advantage is direct. Custom or high-performance
PU-coated components are expensive to replace, especially at larger scales or
with specialized dimensions. Reclaiming the original core and replacing only
the worn polyurethane significantly reduces cost.
